Eliot Spitzer's career as a CNN primetime news commentator and show host is at an end.

CNN on Wednesday announced a new primetime schedule for the fall that will include a new general news show hosted by Erin Burnett, who made her name as breakout anchor at CNBC.

The new unnamed show will run live at 7 p.m. and repeat at 11 p.m. starting this fall, CNN said.

Burnett, a former fiancial analyst, actually started her broadcast career at CNN, working as writer and booker for such now departed personalities as Willow Bay and Lou Dobbs.

Spitzer, the former New York Attorney General who resigned his governorship there following a high price prostitution scandal in 2008, first came to CNN in June 2010 in a commentary show with columnist Kathleen Parker called "Parker Spitzer." Since she left in February, he's been heading the show, retitled "In the Arena."

The full fall CNN schedule has "The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer" at 4 p.m. daily, followed by "John King USA" at 6 p.m., Erin Burnett at 7 p.m., repeating at 11 p.m.; "Anderson Cooper 360" at 8 p.m., repeating at 10 p.m.; "Piers Morgan Tonight" at 9 p.m., repeating at midnight.
